During the first fourteen years of our festival, we presented over 100
different works in a variety of styles and ensembles ranging from duos to
full orchestra repertoire. Again this year, we continue our policy of not
repeating any selection from previous seasons, while adding four new
composers (two French, one English, and a 21st Century work composed for
our Principal Violist).
While both Bizet and Gounod are more famous for their operatic output
(Carmen and Faust respectively), George Butterworth’s most promising
career was cut short with his death in World War I. The Suite for Viola
and Orchestra by Michael McLean is our initial presentation of a 21st
Century composition. It had its acclaimed premiere two years ago at the
Sunflower Music Festival.
Again, I thank all of those who continue to express their delight in
attending our performances and who offer suggestions for future concerts.
We welcome your comments, and truly enjoy sharing our efforts with so
many friends of the Buzzards Bay Musicfest.
