Festival History

There are many reasons why people flock to Marion each summer; sandy beaches, fine sailing and a quaint village atmosphere have made it a summer haven for over a century. Since 1997, Marion has also been home to Buzzards Bay Musicfest, a five-day classical concert series featuring world class musicians.

Artistic Director Charles Stegeman, guest conductors and the gifted musicians have presented over 150 works in a variety of styles and ensembles, ranging from jazz to swing to chamber music, duos, trios, and a full orchestra. Each year brings new works from a variety of composers.

All concerts are free. The mission of the Musicfest’s founding members to provide an extraordinary opportunity for cultural enrichment to the public, without cost continues. While the Buzzards Bay Musicfest Foundation provides a small percentage of the festival’s operating budget, 97% of funding comes from individual donations, both large and small. Whether one dollar or one thousand, every contribution matters and each monetary gift helps to provide a rich musical experience for so many.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of the Buzzards Bay Musicfest is honored to present this annual concert series free to residents and guests of Marion, MA and the entire South Shore region.
