Fred Aldrich

French Horn

Fred Aldrich began playing the horn at the age of 10 while growing up in Virginia. He continued his studies at the New England Conservatory of Music where he studied with Boston Symphony member Richard Mackey. Studies also include having worked with Julie Landsman and Mason Jones.

Fred has extensive orchestral experience having performed with the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, Boston Ballet, Boston Lyric Opera and the Philharmonia Hungarica. In addition he is a member of the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra and the Bach, Beethoven and Brahms Society. He has also performed on period instrument with the Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Baroque and Aston Magna Music Festival.

Teaching the horn is also a big part of Fred’s life. He has been at Wellesley College since 2009 and Brandeis University since 2008. Fred also taught at Smith College for 24 years until 2017. He also taught at Amherst and Mt. Holyoke Colleges. And in addition to his college teaching and private horn studio Fred is also the longtime horn section coach for the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras.
