Johann Díaz, from Caracas, Venezuela, began playing the viola through El Sistema, Venezuela’s renowned youth orchestra program. He was a member of the Sinfónica Municipal de Caracas, and studied at the Mozarteum of Caracas and the Simón Bolívar Conservatory before earning his master’s degree in Viola Performance from Duquesne University. Johann currently holds section positions with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra and performs regularly as a substitute with ensembles such as the Erie Philharmonic and the West Virginia Symphony. As a soloist, he has appeared with orchestras in Venezuela, Peru, and the Dominican Republic.
