Sean Elliott

First Violin

Sean Elliott is a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the West Virginia University’s School of Music in Morgantown, West Virginia and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance degree from West Virginia University and a Master of Music in Performance degree from Carnegie Mellon University. His principal teachers included William van der Sloot, Sunmi Chang, Mikylah Myers, Ellen-Maria Willis, and Mary Wilson.

As a performance major, Sean has received numerous collegiate scholarships, is a two-time winner of the WVU School of Music Young Artist Competition (Vieuxtemps’ Violin Concerto No. 5 and Vivaldi’s “Spring” and “Summer”from The Four Seasons), and has performed as a soloist in masterclasses with distinguished artists such as Chris Wu of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (Mozart Violin Concerto No. 5), as well as internationally renowned violinists Midori (Sibelius Violin Concerto) and Ray Chen (Bartók Violin Concerto No. 2). He also has experience as a chamber musician, performing with the WVU Graduate Quartet for ensembles such as Time for Three, the Amernet String Quartet, and other esteemed guest artists.

Sean’s summer festival appearances included serving as Concertmaster of the Round Top Summer Festival Orchestra in Texas during its 45th season, and studying, collaborating, and performing in Music From Salem, a violin and viola chamber music seminar with Boston Conservatory faculty Sharan Leventhal and Lila Brown. Internationally, he has performed with the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) Orchestra in Graz, Austria, where he served as both a section violinist and Assistant Concertmaster. More recently, he has participated in Violin and Viola Bootcamp workshops at Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music, led by Charles and Rachel Stegeman.

In addition to his academic and festival work, Sean maintains an active professional career. He currently holds tenure in multiple orchestral positions, including as Principal Second Violin of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Associate Principal Second Violin of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, and section violinist with the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra. He is also a section violin member at the Pittsburgh Ballet Orchestra and appears regularly with the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh and the Monongalia Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, during the 2024 and 2025 summer seasons, he has performed at the Sunflower Music Festival in Topeka, Kansas.

A dedicated educator and collaborator, Sean teaches private lessons in his community and frequently performs as a substitute with regional orchestras, including the Lexington, Huntington, Washington, and Westmoreland Symphony Orchestras. He maintains an active presence in the musical community of Morgantown, WV and Pittsburgh, PA, collaborating with students, faculty, and professional musicians in recitals and performances throughout the region.
